It is a landmark that sums up a very French spirit which has found its way to a Yorkshire village ahead of the arrival of the Tour de France Grand Départ in the region this weekend.
Charles Prest is pictured with a model of the Eiffel Tower which he has built in his garden in Burley in Wharfedale, near Leeds, a village the world’s leading riders will pass through on Saturday.
Burley-in-Wharfedale Scouts and Guides raised an impressive £1,300 towards their project of fundraising for a new headquarters when they toured the village with the Santa Sleigh. Leaders, parents and members braved the wind and rain giving villagers the opportunity to see Santa. The tradition remains very popular with adults and children alike. Many children waited up to see Santa, some even came out to greet him in their pyjamas, and giving him letters, hopefully making their wishes come true.
