Brownies is the largest section of Girlguiding.
Brownies are aged between 7 and 10 years old and enjoy an exciting variety of activities in their weekly meetings, on trips and on Brownie holidays and camps.
Brownies work in sixes that are groups of about six girls led by a Sixer, who is supported by a Second. Sixes are named after magical creatures such as elves and pixies, or animals & flowers.
Girls work together in their sixes for different activities and games and love mixing with others and making new friends.
Brownies have their own uniform, girls can choose from a number of mix and match options in yellow and brown including a hoodie, t-shirt, leggings, sash and trousers.
Like other sections in Girlguiding, Brownies also make a promise. The Brownie promise is...
I promise that I will do my best, to be true to myself and develop my beliefs, to serve the King and my community, to help other people and to keep the Brownie Guide Law.
The Brownie Law is….
A Brownie thinks of others before herself and does a good turn every day.
The Brownie programme is girl-led. Girls follow the Guiding programme by sometimes doing Skill Builders. Skills builder stages are great for girls to work on. They all link with our programme themes and cover everything girls love about guiding from outdoor adventures to learning leadership skills.
There are six stages to complete in each topic and girls earn a badge for every stage they complete. Each stage is a bit more challenging and Brownies gain some very valuable skills and collect a great set of badges!
Brownies can complete various Interest badges covering all sorts of interests and topics, such as Performing, Collecting, Grow Your Own, Space, Speaking Out and Inventing – just to name a few.
Brownies take on outdoor challenges, cycling, grass sledging, fencing and archery, explore fascinating topics like astronomy or film-making and develop key skills for life.
This is only a taster of what happens in Brownies. Girls have opportunities to go on trips, Brownie holidays, camps and sleepovers.
Brownies have been on overnight trips away to places like Eureka and The Deep – where some girls slept under the fish. Trips to Nell Bank, Reva and the cinema are just a few of the exciting trips we have had.
Brownies meet up with other groups, make new friends and much, much more!
Brownies is so much fun!
