Brownies

Brownies is the largest section of Girlguiding, it recently celebrated its 100th birthday and is as popular now as ever.

Brownies are aged between 7 and 10 years old and enjoy an exciting variety of activities in their weekly meetings, on trips and on Brownie holidays and camps.

Brownies work in sixes that are groups of about six girls led by a sixer, who is supported by a Second. Sixes are named after magical creatures such as elves and pixies or woodland creatures. Girls work together in their sixes for different activities and games and love mixing with others and making new friends.

Like other sections in Girlguiding, Brownies also make a promise.
The Brownie promise is...

  • I promise that I will do my best, to be true to myself and develop my beliefs, to serve the Queen and my community, to help other people and to keep the Brownie Guide Law.

The Brownie Law is..

  • A Brownie thinks of others before herself and does a good turn every day.

The Brownie programme is girl-led and focuses on the three programme areas: You, Community and World. During their time in Brownies girls work on activities from each of these areas and earn their Brownie Adventure, Adventure on and More Adventure badges.

The girls help to choose their own activities and the possibilities are endless. Activities at meetings range from crafts and games to cycling, fencing and archery.

In their time as a Brownie, girls can complete various interest badges covering all sorts of interests and topics. The syllabus for each of these can be found on the Brownie website.

Brownies have their own uniform, girls can choose from a number of mix and match options in yellow and brown including a hoodie, t-shirt, leggings, sash and trousers.

This is only a sample of what happens in Brownies, girls have opportunities to go on trips, Brownie holidays, camps and sleepovers, meet up with other groups, make new friends and much much more!

They continue to offer an excellent programme of crafts and games as well as trips away to places like The Deep –where some girls slept under the fish. Trips to Nell Bank, Reva and sleepovers are also planned. They have made their own Christmas cakes and tried grass sledging and archery and of course earnt more badges
