Brownie leader goes to Katiyo Primary School in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe

A Brownie leader has travelled to Zimbabwe to meet pupils and teachers at a primary school her pack has been supporting for the past 13 years. It was 15 years ago Sharon Hattersley, leader of 1st Burley-in-Wharfedale Brownies, first read in Guiding magazine about a charity called Book Aid, which collects books from around the world and supplies them at a low cost to schools across Africa.

All the girls and leaders of 1st Burley Brownie would like to thank everyone who donated books, pens, footballs and other gifts to Katiyo Primary School in Zimbabwe. Sharon the group leader has just returned from visiting the school where the gifts were very gratefully received, “It was wonderful to be able to see the difference the Brownies have been able to make over the last 12 years through the £8000 they have raised so far. There is much still to do and we would welcome support from anyone who would like to help us with our fundraising efforts”.
