Thankyou to everyone who has supported us in raising over £500,000 for a new home. Here are some of the major grants and awards that we have received

freemasons logoThanks so much to the Freemasons from Olicana Lodge in Ilkley.

Freemasonry is possibly the second largest donor to charity: the first being the National Lottery. Unlike organisations like Round Table and Rotary Club however the principal source of charitable funds is the membership themselves, not the general public. The Lodge have donated £2,500 to the fundraising appeal for the new headquarters building.

This generous donation is a welcome contribution to help us fund the extensive shelving in our new store room, that now makes all our equipment easily accessible.

Ilkley Rotary have awarded the Group a grant of £3,100 towards external refrurbishment and outdoor equipment.

The Rotary Club of Ilkley works to improve the community and support local projects, that make a real difference to lives of people in the Ilkley area.

ShareGift have generously donated £1,000 towards to the new HQ build. ShareGift provides a charitable solution to the problem of small shareholdings.

Often unwanted because they are too small to sell, these shares can be transferred to ShareGift at no cost to the shareholder, aggregated and sold to benefit different registered charities. The result is a significant funding stream for the charitable sector which would not otherwise exist. Since the charity was set up in 1996, over £30 million has been donated to more than 2,500 charities. ShareGift works closely with shareholders, Public Limited Companies, solicitors, stockbrokers, financial advisers and charities to create this pool of charitable funds

The Scout and Guide Group are very grateful to the Burley Community Trust for a generous donation of £3,000 and for the offer of an interest free loan (if required).

The Burley in Wharfedale Community Trust is a registered charity providing facilities and services to benefit all residents of Burley. The Trust is managed by a group of volunteer Trustees who have recently completed other investments in the village such as the renovation of the Fountain of Life and the surrounding area at the bottom of Station Road to provide a focal point for the village for residents and visitors. All Burley residents are invited to join the Trust for a small annual fee (£12 each, £18 family)

The Foyle Foundation is an independent grantmaking trust that distributes grants to UK charities. The Foundation has awarded Burley Scouts and Guides £5,000 through its Small Grants Scheme which is designed to support smaller charities, especially those working at grass roots and local community level. Burley Scouts and Guides are deeply appreciate of this financial support

The Garfield Weston Foundation is a family founded grant making trust, that supports a broad range of charities across the UK that make a positive difference. The Foundation has awarded Burley Scouts and Guides £15,000 towards the completion of the new building, for which of course we are enormously grateful

The Foundation is proud to invest in our nation’s future generations through organisations that consistently demonstrate the commitment of volunteers and professionals to support and inspire young people to achieve their potential.

The Sir George Martin Trust gives grants to charitable projects in West and North Yorkshire and tends to support small to medium sized local charities which strive to improve the lives of the people they work with.

Burley Scouts and Guides were delighted when the trust announced the award of £1500 towards the cost of the new HQ

Sir George Martin was a prominent Leeds businessman who became Lord Mayor of Leeds, High Sheriff of West Yorkshire, Chairman of Leeds City Magistrates, Chairman of the Leeds Area Health Authority and Chairman of the Governors of Woodhouse Grove School. He was given the Freedom of the City of Leeds in 1966.

He formed the Trust in 1956

Burley Scouts and Guides Group are very grateful to the Topps Tiles Community Spaces initiative who have donated  £1,500 worth of tiles for us to fit out our kitchen areas in our new HQ building

Thanks to the  Shipley Community Chest we have been a grant for £350 to fit out the disabled toilet.

 Shipley Community Chest award grants to groups who operate in the Shipley Area for projects that benefit residents of Shipley Constituency

Ilkley and District Round Table have announced a donation of £10,000 to to assist with the construction and fitting out of the new headquarters. In making the descion, Round Table were impressed by the commitment and passion of the Burley Scouts and Guides management to deliver such an ambitious project. Rob Hodgson, Community Service Officer for Ilkley Round Table said, “This project ticked a lot of boxes for us. We raise money every year to support projects like this that will have a long-lasting positive impact upon the lives of many people in the Wharfedale area. We encourage anyone who is looking for funding to get in touch with us.”

Te fund provides grants  to enable innovative and impactful organisations to address a range of social challenges and build stronger communities.

National Lottery Awards for All has awarded us £10,000 in January 2018 to install our kitchen in the new HQ.

National Lottery’s Awards for All offers grants of  for grassroots and community activity that aims to bring people together and building strong relationships in and across communities as well as improve the places and spaces that matter to communities

The Burley Scout and Guide HQ were chosen as a Co-op Local Community Fund. This enabled Co-op members to who used their Co-op Membership card to donate 1% of what they spent to our cause. In Novembver 2017 we were given a cheque for £1850. In addition, there was a cake sale on the Co-op forecourt & an impromptu bucket collection by the youngsters which raised a further £160. So in total  we have received £2,010 for the new HQ fund

In the Tesco Bags of Help vote our HQ project came second and has been chosen by Tesco Customers to receive an award of £2,000. Voting was held at Tesco stores between Friday 1st September to Tuesday 31st October 2017

We’ve had a very kind pledge from Guiseley & District Lions who have offered £1000 for new tables & chairs once the new HQ is ready. Thank you Guiseley & District Lions!

In 2017/18, Lions Clubs International celebrated its centenary. Every Lions Clubs supports a range of good causes and projects in its area.

Club memebers are enthusiastic about making a difference and help with such things as fund-raising campaigns, organising local events, to achieve things that would otherwise not be possible.

Lord Barnby’s Foundation have made a welcome donation of £5,000 towards the new Headquarters building fund

This is a teriffic grant that enables us to make a good start on our building activties commence the construction phase of the programme.

Lord Barnby’s Charitable Foundation is a Devon based grant provider that makes awards  to charities for general charitable causes including the advancement of programmes benefiting young people.

Burley Scouts and Guides are extremely grateful to the foundation in providing us with such a generous donation

Burley Theatre Group held a very successful Murder Mystery evening in January 2017 and dontated £600 profits towards the new Scout Headquarters

Burley Theatre Group is a local amateur theatre group which puts on around three shows a year.

The Group perform mainly in the Queen’s Hall in Burley, and depend entirely on the skills and efforts of local people, not just for acting talent, but for the many other roles needed for the show to go on.

The group welcomes new members whether you want to act, help out with costumes and stage management, or help out front of house. All support is welcome

Burley’s Salem church chose the Scout and Guide group as their charity of the year 2015/16.  In July 2016 they presented us with a cheque for £1,000

Salem URC in Burley in Wharfedale is part of the United Reformed Church.  We’re a small church in terms of the size of our building, but we are a big church in our approach to to our faith and community. The church meet regularly for social events like our coffee mornings, quiz and movie nights.

The Basil Samuel Family Trust kindly awarded us £5,000 towards the build of our new HQ

The trust offers grants to charitable organisations active in the UK.

rippon carsRipon Classic Car Group organise an annual classic car show.

As a non profit organisation all monies raised go to charity and in July 2016 the group donated £850 for the new HQ.

The donation resulted from the Kitchener-style poster that was sent out, which was received by the grandparents of a Rainbow, who are members of the Classic Cars Group & put our name forward.

Summer Fest

Many thanks to the Burley Summer Festival Committee who awarded us £1,000 from the profits from the 2015 Summer Festival

A further, and much welcomed, donation of £500 was made following the 2016 Summer Festival

Festival week is a very busy time for the committee organisers, and the group would welcome support from anyone who feels they could give just a little of thier time. If you enjoy the car show, the musical events, all the children’s activities and don’t want to lose them next year please get in touch – all offers of help will be gratefully received – we do need volunteers through the week but we badly need a few more people who are able to take a small role

Burley Education TrustBurley Educational Trust  exists “for the advancement of education in young people aged 18 and under and resident in the area… by provision of any financial assistance not normally provided by the local education authority, government or school”. In February 2016 the Trust provided an award of £20,000 towards the new headquarters

 

Our Scout & Guide Group were chosen twice to be part of the Co-op community project in Burley.    Collectively we have been presented with cheques amounting to £4900!
