Rangers is for young women aged 14 to 18. We meet once a week, sometimes at weekends & in the holidays, depending on our programme. We wear uniform which is a hoodie, jeans & trainers.
Rangers is about friends and fun, and where you will be challenged to try new experiences. In Burley we offer an exciting programme with a huge variety of challenges & opportunities for personal development. You can develop skills like running a marathon, ice skating, climbing, making films, camping in the wild, hiking or volunteering overseas.
Rangers plan their own programme & can be flexible – they can take their chosen activity as far as they wish, from taster level all the way to gaining a qualification that is recognised outside guiding.
We talk about issues that matter, stand up for what we believe in and actually do something about it. We get involved in local community events and take part in Christmas Markets, Teas on the Green and Bonfire Night. We run workshops and fun events for members of Guiding and Scouting. Rangers often help with other guiding units.
Rangers are involved with a wide range of awards and qualifications. Many participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme. Rangers can also gain the King’s Guides and Commonwealth Award and other prestigious awards specific to guiding. They can become a Peer Educator, who are trained to run sessions on issues that affect girls and young women such as bullying, self-harm and addictions. You could join the guiding delegation at the British Youth Council. The opportunities are endless.
Like all guiding sections we have a Promise. You can choose where you make your Promise – it may be camping, on a mountain top, swimming – anywhere you choose. When you make your Promise you will be given a badge and a certificate to remind you of this special occasion.
The Senior Section Promise
I promise that I will do my best, to be true to myself and develop my beliefs, to serve the King and my community, to help other people and to keep the Guide Law.
