Remembrance Day Parade 2018 – 100 years on

On Sunday 11th November, members of all units represented the Scout and Guide group at a combined church remembrance service and wreath laying ceremony in the village. The event marked  the 100th anniversary of the Armistice, and attracted many more residents than have been seen in recent years. The numbers of youngsters across the age range of our units was impressive, their turnout immaculate and their conduct commendable both in church and at the war memorial.

Many people commented that it was good to see the younger generation of our village participating in this act of community remembrance.

The church was packed, with standing room only, and many of the children had to sit on the floor at the front of the church and in the chancel area.  Some of the young people from the Scout and Guides groups lead the readings, while other younger members planted crosses for the fallen at the war memorial.

The Scouting and Guiding units worked together to create this effective hand crafted display of flowing poppies, with help from other children in the village and the support of the There, Not There project and Youth United Foundation, who donated the Tommy silhouettes.
