Funding provided by Ilkley and District Round Table is helping Burley and Addingham Scouts towards their fundraising goal for their Swiss Experience in 2016.

In July, 35 young people aged ten to 14, from Burley-in-Wharfedale and Addingham will be travelling to the International Scout Centre in Kandersteg, Switzerland. During the trip they have a whole host of exciting and adventurous activities planned, including tobogganing, alpine mountaineering, ice climbing and learning survival skills.

As well as the physical activities, the group hopes to build friendships with Scouts from all over the world, giving the young people the opportunity to learn about other customs and cultures and to benefit from the fellowship of people their own age from other countries.

The Scouts need about £9,000 for the trip, and in addition to the £1,600 donation from the Round Table, have raised thousands of pounds themselves.

Of the 35 young people attending the trip, three members of the group have disabilities and learning difficulties, two of which will require full time carers to enable them to go on the trip. Mr Jennings added: “The money received from Ilkley and District Round Table, by paying for the two full time carers, will enable our three young people with additional needs to attend the camp. We cannot overstress the benefit to the lives of these three young people in enabling them to take part in our adventure.”
