TWO groups of Scouts from Addingham and Burley-in-Wharfedale are a step closer to achieving their goal of visiting the International Scout Centre in Switzerland in 2016 thanks to a donation from property firm Dacre Son & Hartley.

In total there will be 35 Scouts aged between 11 and 14, attending a ‘mini World Jamboree’. To make sure the trip was affordable to all the groups have been fundraising and looking for sponsorship

Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland is the World Centre of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement. The Centre began in 1923 with Lord Baden-Powell, who, after the first World Scout Jamboree, had a dream about a place where all Scouts from all over the world could meet: the Permanent Mini Jamboree

Once there, the scouts will take part in lots of activities, including tobogganing, mountaineering in the Alps and visiting a glacier. They will also learn about the locality and the customs and cultures of the other young people from the other nations attending the camp. International friendship is a key aspect of visiting the centre.
